Directions to the NGAO meeting on September 14 at UC Irvine.

The meeting will be held in the Physics conference room, 4135 Frederick Reines Hall.

Buying a parking permit will be most convenient if you have $7 in exact bills or change (in $1 and $5 bills, or coins)- try to bring along $7 for the machine since it will save you a bit of time.   If you don't have the exact amount you can still go to a kiosk and buy a permit.

Here's a campus map.    It's probably a good idea to print this out and bring it along to find your way.  Roads on campus can be kind of confusing and there's a lot of construction going on this week with some road closures.

Getting to UCI:

If you're coming from the 405 Freeway:  Exit at MacArthur and go south on MacArthur (this is a left turn off the freeway exit if you were going south on the 405).  Continue along MacArthur for about 2 miles, then turn left at Bison to enter the UCI campus.

If you're coming from the 73 Freeway:  Exit at Bison.  If you were going south on the 73, turn left at the end of the exit ramp to go East on Bison toward the campus.  If you were going north on the 73, turn right at the end of the exit ramp.

If you're coming from John Wayne Airport or the Atrium or Hilton hotels:  Head south on MacArthur Blvd.  (From the hotels you'll probably have to go north on MacArthur and then make a U-turn onto MacArthur heading south.)  Follow MacArthur heading south for about 2 miles and then make a left on Bison to enter the campus.

Once you're on campus:

If you have $7 exactly for the machine:  Continue heading east along Bison, past California Ave. and past E. Peltason.  A little bit after you pass East Peltason Dr., make a right turn at a large driveway to enter Parking lot 16.  There is a yellow vending machine right at the entrance to the parking lot.  Buy a 1-day permit for $7 and park, then walk to Reines Hall, building 401 on the map.

If you don't have $7 exactly for the machine:   You can buy a permit at one of the parking structures on campus, and then drive to lot 16 to park.  Because of construction on campus this week, the easiest place to buy a permit is at the Mesa parking structure, which is on Mesa road next to the Bren Events Center and labelled "MS" on the map, in section 3D.  To get there, enter the campus on Bison Ave, as described above.  Then, heading into campus on Bison, make a left onto West Peltason.  After you pass under a bridge, make a right turn to stay on West Peltason, and right after you see the Bren Events Center on your left, turn left onto Mesa.  Enter the parking garage and buy a permit at the kiosk.  Then retrace your steps along West Peltason back to Bison and turn left on Bison.  One short block ahead, turn right to enter lot 16 and park there.

When you arrive at Reines Hall, take the elevator up to the 4th floor, exit the elevator and turn left, and go straight to the end of the hall. Room 4135 will be on your left.

For people who need it, there's a coffee kiosk right outside Reines Hall.

If you're staying at the Atrium hotel, they have a shuttle service that can drive you to campus.  Please let the hotel know in advance that you'll be needing a ride, because if you wait until the last minute the van may not be there exactly when you need it.  A good place to be dropped off is at the end of Bison Ave near the central part of the campus.   Inquire at the hotel about whether they will be able to pick you up again in the evening if you need it.
