Postdoctoral Position Available in Ultrafast Spectroscopy

An interdisciplinary group of seven faculty at the University of California, Irvine seeks a postdoctoral scientist.

Our research focuses on the development of ultrafast spectroscopy in combination with scanning tunneling microscopy to explore the ultrafast behavior of single molecules. This collaborative project is directed by professors Shaul Mukamel, Wilson Ho (Physics), Ara Apkarian (Chemistry), Doug Mills (Physics), Eric Potma (Chemistry), Philip Collins (Physics), and Nien-Hui Ge (Chemistry).

The Candidate must have a strong background in ultrafast spectroscopy/microscopy and extensive hands-on experience with femtosecond lasers. The candidate must also possess the ambition to learn more about areas in which they have less expertise. The candidate will carry out research centered in the laboratory of one PI, but also coordinate the activities of multiple graduate students working in each of the PI’s labs.  The initial appointment is for one year, and is renewable for up to two additional years.

Interested candidates should send a CV with three letters of recommendation by email to:

Eric Potma
Assistant Professor of Chemistry

Postdoctoral Position Available in Nano-BioScience

An interdisciplinary group of four faculty at the University of California, Irvine seeks a postdoctoral scientist.

Our research focuses on the development of hybrid biosensors in which single biological molecules are interfaced to nanoscale electronic circuits composed of single walled carbon nanotubes, semiconductor nanowires, or metal nanowires.  Professors Nancy Allbritton (Medicine), Philip Collins (Physics), Reg Penner (Chemistry), and Gregory Weiss (Chemistry) direct the project.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in EITHER electrical characterization of nanoscale electronics or else biofunctional attachment and novel assay development.

Phil Collins
Assistant Professor of Physics
