COSMOS Astronomy & Astrophysics 2007
Project Groups

The 21 students in this year's Astronomy & Astrophysics Cluster will be broken up into 8 project groups with each group having two to three  students. The composition of the groups is listed below.

See the schedule on the web to find out when your group will observe at the UCI Observatory. Every group that needs observational data for their project is scheduled for at least two nights at the Observatory. Some nights two groups are on the schedule, and one group will use the 24" telescope while the other group uses the 8" telescope. The two groups that do not need observational data (those doing number counts of distant galaxies and computer simulations of galaxy formation & dark matter hals) are scheduled for one night each out at the Observatory to use the 8" telescope to explore the night sky. There are a few extra nights at the end of the term that we can use as make-up nights for those groups that experience bad weather on their scheduled nights.

When you go out to the Observatory to observe, it is your responsibility to be ready when the van leaves and to come prepared to carry out your project: know what objects you'll be observing and their positoins, what data and calibration images to take, etc..  During Project Lab, your TA will help you create a schedule of the observations to be made.
