SPRING 2008 CLASSES BEGIN MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2008 PHYSICS LABS BEGIN ON MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2008 SPRING 2008 ENROLLMENT INFORMATION Please check the WebSOC for the most current list of course offerings. UCI STUDENTS ADDS: Students who wish to add, drop or make enrollment changes in Physics courses must use WebReg. The deadline for doing this is Friday, April 11, 2008 (end of Week Two). Students with enrollment issues should email physics.enroll@uci.edu prior to the enrollment deadline. NO ADDS OR ENROLLMENT CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER APRIL 11. DROPS/GRADE CHANGE OPTION: Students who wish to drop a class or make a grade option change after Week Two should do so in person in RH 520. Enrollment Office Hours (RH 520) Weeks 1, 2 & 6: Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm & 1:00 - 3:00 pm All other weeks: Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 12:30 pm The last day to drop without a 'W' notation is FRIDAY, MAY 9 (end of Week 6). STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO FILE AN OFFICIAL DROP CARD WITH THE REGISTRAR WILL RECEIVE A GRADE OF "NR" IN THE COURSE. AN "NR" TURNS TO AN "F" OR "NP" AFTER ONE QUARTER OF ATTENDANCE. ACCESS/EXTENSION STUDENTS Access/Extension students should visit RH 520 on Thursday,April 10 or Friday, April 11 to process enrollment forms. Access/Extension students will not be enrolled prior to this date. The absolute deadline to add or adjust schedules is Friday, April 11 (end of Week 2). USING THE WAITLIST SYSTEM The waitlist system for all Physics courses will be activated through the enrollment deadline - Friday, April 11 (end of Week 2). Placement on the waitlist does not guarantee enrollment in the class. If you are unable to add through the waitlist system, you must register in an open section using WebReg by the enrollment deadline. STUDENTS STILL ON THE WAITLIST AFTER APRIL 11 WILL NOT BE ADDED. Information about the waitlist system can be found on the Registrar's page. PHYSICS COURSE INFORMATION PHYSICS 3: Physics 3 is now offered in two sequences. The first sequence offers 3A in the Fall, 3B in the Winter, and 3C in the Spring, with two lecture sections in each quarter. The second sequence offers 3A in the Winter, 3B in the Spring, and 3C in the Fall, with one lecture section in each quarter. PHYSICS 3LB/3LC: The majority of the 3LB sections will now be offered in Winter Quarter, and the majority of the 3LC sections will be offered in Fall Quarter. PHYSICS 7/7L: The Physics 7 lectures are a co-requisite for the Physics 7 labs. The lecture and the lab MUST be taken concurrently. Students need to enroll in Physics 7 lab BEFORE enrolling in the Physics 7 lecture and discussion. NOTES ON PREREQUISITES All prerequisites are strictly enforced. Students who have not successfully completed the required prerequisite for a course with a grade of D or better may not continue in the sequence. The list of prerequisite courses can be found at the Registrar's course prerequisites page or in the UCI General Catalogue. NOTES ON SPRING 2008 LABORATORY SECTIONS Attendance is required Week 1, beginning March 31, 2008. Attendance in your assigned laboratory section is MANDATORY throughout the quarter. Students will be allowed to participate in their assigned sections only. Most sections fill to capacity so students should plan their schedules carefully and enroll as early as possible using WebReg. See above for information on how to add/drop a laboratory section. Lab manuals for Physics 3LB-LC, 7LA-LB-LD and 52A-B-C are available at the UCI Bookstore. Courses 3LB-LC and 52A-B-C also require the use of 5 blue books (grid) which must be purchased prior to WEEK ONE at the UCI Bookstore. Memorial Day will be observed on Monday, May 26, 2008. Physics 3LB, 3LC, 7LB, 7LD & 52C students with Monday sections will meet on Saturday, May 31 at the regularly scheduled time. LAB FEES: Students of Physics 3LB-LC, 7LA-LB-LD, 52A-B-C, 120, 121 and 206 will be charged a $25.00 lab fee. The charges for these classes will be added to your ZOT Bill Week 1 of the quarter. These charges will be posted Week 3 if you add a Physics lab after week 1. The last day to add a lab is Friday, April 11, 2008. Students who drop a Physics lab course no later than Friday, April 11, 2008 may have the fee reversed. In order to reverse the lab fee, students must bring proof of the drop date and their student ID card to the Physics Undergraduate Affairs Office (RH 525, hrs 9-12 noon M-F). SRPING 2008 INSTRUCTOR/TA OFFICE HOURS The office hours for instructors and TA's are posted on-line and updated regularly. PHYSICS TUTORING The Physics Tutoring Center is available to students in Physics 3 and Physics 7. Please check the tutoring center schedule for times and locations. Students may also enroll in a tutoring session through LARC. If you are interested hiring a private tutor, please send an email request to Kirsten Lodgard. Your request will be forwarded to current Physics undergraduate and graduate students. FINAL EXAM PICK-UP Students may pick up their Winter 2008 final exams Wednesday, April 2 - Friday, April 4. The location is RH 525. The hours are 9 am - 3 pm. UCI photo ID is required to pick up exams. After Week 1, the exams will reside in RH 518 until Week 8.
