The
Department of Physics and Astronomy requires students entering the
upper division courses to have a working knowledge of Mathematica. This
is generally accomplished by taking the Physics 50 course in the spring
of the second year. If you have not had formal Mathematica training,
you can satisfy the training by purchasing the book used for this
course. The book can be purchased online at the URL shown below:
There are a number of levels of student versions of Mathematica
available at the Mathematica website. Once you have the book, as
a minimum, you should read the sections in the “Mathematica
Usage
Tutorials and the “Vector Analysis section.
Additionally, you should
do the quizzes in the “Mathematica Usage Tutorials.
This will provide
sufficient experience for success in the upper division courses.
If you have question, contact the chief undergraduate advisor, Prof.
Dennin at mdennin@uci.edu.
