ABSTRACT:

Novelty of the magnetic behavior of geometrically frustrated spin-chain families of the type Ca3Co2O6, and their derivatives, will be briefly reviewed.  In addition, the results  of dielectric and electric polarization studies would be presented. The data bring out  novel dielectric behavior, not only below TN, but also above TN. The results (also on Haldane spin-chain systems) provide evidence for interesting concepts like, short-range magnetic-correlations-induced ferroelectricity above Néel temperature,  ‘re-entrant’ multiglass-like behavior, and ‘magnetodielectric phase coexistence’.
