Resources

At the moment, our resource page is not much more than a bunch of links to other sites. We plan to offer career guides and GRE study guides in the future.

Studying Physics

Succeeding as a Physics Major at UCI - Every physics student at UC Irvine should read this.

Solving Problems in Physics - Problem solving is the heart of doing physics, so the main focus of your undergraduate career must be the development of your problem solving skills.

Math Needed For Theoretical Physics - A list of the math topics that you should learn during your undergraduate career. Keep in mind that this site is about string theory, so you shouldn't worry about the topics listed on the second and third page until you get to grad school (though a quick study of those topics won't hurt if you plan to go into theory).

Theoretical Physics as a Challenge - If you want to become a theoretical physicist, make sure to visit this site. Includes a list of physics topics you will cover in your undergraduate and graduate career as a physicist, and links to online reading material for each topic listed. This is particularly useful if you want to see what's ahead.

Physics Reference

HyperPhysics-GSU - Come here when you need a quick physics formula or a summary of an unfamiliar physics topic.

Physics-Wolfram - Another good site to visit when you need a quick physics formula or a summary of an unfamiliar physics topic.

Mathworld-Wolfram - This is a good site to visit when you need a math formula, or a summary of an unfamiliar math topic.

NIST Physics Reference Data (Fundamental Constants)  - This is a good website to go to when you need to know the best available value of a fundamental constant.

Particle Data Group  -  Here, you can find the biannual Review of Particle Physics, a 1200-page book containing elementary particle data.

The Physics GRE

ETS GRE Site - Sign up for the GRE Physics Subject Test, and the General GRE here.

ETS GRE Practice Test - This is the pdf version of the practice test ETS mails out when you sign up for the Physics GRE.

PhysicsGRE.com - The best site to visit for information and tips when you're preparing for the Physics GRE.

Harvard SPS Physics GRE Site - The Harvard SPS site is one of the best physics GRE resources online. You can find practice tests (actual test administered by ETS in previous years), and formula sheets to help you study for the test.

Stanford SPS Physics GRE Site - This site has some good tips on studying for the GRE. You can also find previously released ETS practice tests on this site.

Physics GRE Solutions - This is a good site to visit if you're stumped on a problem on one of ETS' practice tests.
