Professor Jing Xia (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California at Irvine) is the winner of the 2017 Outstanding Young Researcher Award (Macronix Prize) of the International Organization of Chinese Physicists and Astronomers (OCPA).
The OYRA (Macronix Prize) is given each year to young ethnic Chinese physicists/astronomers outside of Asia in recognition of their outstanding achievements in physics. The Award carries a total cash prize of US $2,000 and a certificate citing the awardee's accomplishments in research.
The Citation for Jing Xia: For his development of loopless fiber-optical Sagnac interferometer and ultra-sensitive magneto-optic microscope, leading to deep understanding of unconventional superconductors, biological systems and magnetic materials.
BIO: Professor Jing Xia received his bachelor degree from University of Science and Technology of China in 2003 and his PhD degree in 2008 from Stanford University. From 2008-2011, he was a Tolman Postdoc Fellow in Caltech. He joined the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California at Irvine in 2011 as Assistant Professor and in 2015, he was promoted to Associate Professor. He received the Sloan Fellowship in 2013 and the NSF CAREER award in 2014.
