Textbooks:
“Introduction to Solid State Physics”, 8th Edition, by Kittel (Wiley).
Grading: Homework will be assigned weekly on Tuesday and will be due Tuesday the next week before the lecture. Homework will constitute 50% of the grade. Midterm (1 hour) will be 20%. Final exam (1 hour) will be 30%.
Topics to be covered:
I will try to cover Kittel chapter 1-12:
Electron gas, periodic lattice, phonon, semiconductor, metal, (maybe) superconductivity and magnetism.
Exam:
Exams are closed book and closed-notes. A letter (A4) sized formula sheet and a calculator (w/o internet connection or mobile Mathematica app) are allowed.
One-hour midterm exam in class on Thursday May 7th.
One-hour final exam in class on Thursday June 4th.
Homework
(Homework will be assigned on-line each week after lectures. It is due during Thursday’s lecture the week after.)
