Think about:
- Will the block slide down?
- What is pulling the block down?
- How is the inclined plane angle affecting the slide?
- What is preventing the block to slide down?
Objects move from rest and change their velocity because forces act on them. In this example, the force of gravity pulls the block down the plane, while the friction force between the block and the surface of the plane prevents it from sliding. If the component of the gravity force along the plane is greater than the friction force, the block starts sliding and accelerates down the inclined plane.
Can you think of a force which you recently witnessed?
