Ordering Policies
Important:
We do not provide support for research or other departments on campus. Our lecture demonstrations are available for ordering only for the Department of Physics & Astronomy instructors, and for instructional purposes only.
Demonstrations
Ordering:
- Please email your request at least 24 working hours in advance to BJ
(with a cc to Ferdi) using the alphanumeric and verbal title description found in the catalog. We recommend a maximum of three demonstrations per class meeting.
- If you already know your demonstration schedule for the quarter please fill out the form provided by
BJ and place it in his mailbox in the main office as soon as possible.
- You can check the status of your lecture demo requests on our Demo Calendar. You can use the Demo Calendar as a reminder of your requests throughout the Quarter.
- Please note that there will not be any demos prepared or delivered for classes on Monday.
This is due to the necessity for staff to set-up instructional lab equipment and provide support to lab sessions.
Delivery and Return:
- The delivery and return of requested demonstrations on a normal day will be made by
BJ. Special requests will need to be coordinated with
BJ, who will assist you on a work-permitting basis.
- Due to the increase in the number of lectures being scheduled at the same time, there are many instances when there is
a time conflict between two or more requests.
In such situations, BJ will let you know
about the conflict and will deliver demos according to the order in which requests are recieved.
For facilities that have a storage room, BJ can deliver the demos to that room in advance and will provide you with a key to the room, so you can retrieve the demo at the beginning of your class. Please return the demo back to the storage room at the end of your class.
Recommendations:
- We strongly recommend that you preview and practice your upcoming demos so that you can perform them reliably and
efficiently in lecture. To facilitate this, staff can prepare and place your demos on a cart in MSTB 139 a few days before your lecture. Please
contact BJ or Ferdi to arrange for a preview
meeting.
Audio-Visual
- Since most classrooms and lecture halls have been converted into Smart Classrooms, it has become evident that the
audio-visual equipment (e.g., projectors, computers, VCR's, TV's, etc.) that we have provided in the past is not
needed anymore. Therefore, we have stopped providing such equipment for lectures taking place in Smart Classrooms.
- However, not every single classroom has been converted into a Smart Classroom. For these classrooms that have not
been converted yet, we will continue to provide audio-visual equipment for instruction.
- Some demos require the use of special equipment such as a video camera in order to be successfully presented. We will
obviously provide such special equipment.
