Prof. Liu Chen: Awarded 2012 James Clerk Maxwell Prize for Outstanding Contributions to Plasma Physics

UCI Physics and Astronomy Professor Liu Chen was informed by Dr. Robert L. Byer, President of American Physical Society (APS), that he has been awarded the 2012 James Clerk Maxwell Prize in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of plasma physics.

The citation reads as follows:

“For seminal contributions to plasma theory, including geomagnetic pulsation, kinetic Alfvén wave, toroidal Alfvén eigenmode, fishbone oscillation and energetic particle mode, nonlinear dynamics of drift wave, and nonlinear gyrokinetic equation."

The Prize will be bestowed at the a nnual meeting of the Division of Plasma Physics to be held in Providence, Rhode Island, October 29 - November 2, 2012.
