Physics Lab Innovation Takes Top Prize in Business Competition

A panel of judges consisting of venture capitalists, angel investors, and other business gurus awarded the team NoreGen the $30,000 UCI School of Medicine prize for demonstrating a "viable business solution" meeting an "exciting market need".  The team also took third place overall winning an additional $3500. 
 
The awarded technology of detecting circulating tumor cells from blood originates from the Department of Physics and Astronomy (the Siwy group). Two physics graduate students Laura Innes (Siwy group) and Robert Joachim (Taborek group), as well as Biomedical Engineering student Matt Schiel (Siwy group) were part of the winning NoreGen team.
