Proposal Submission Process & Timeline
Pre-Award Roles & Responsibilities
PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR (PI)
- Notify department staff via Proposal Request Form at least 20 business days prior to deadline; be responsive to staff requests
- Review the solicitation and the sponsor guidelines; ensure all related training and certification requirements are met
- Review budget and provide content and edits to the budget justification; Request Cost Sharing, if applicable
- Put together all scientific components of the proposal
- Work with department staff on all supporting and administrative documents needed for upload; useful Proposal Text and Resources
- Ensure the accuracy, content, and completeness of the final proposal package
DEPARTMENT STAFF
- Review sponsor guidelines to work with the PI on the submission process
- Develop the budget and provide PI with budget justification to finalize
- Assist PI to put together proposal components and check for proposal compliance to the sponsor’s guidelines
- Initiate, complete, and route Kuali Research (KR) for internal review; oversee workflow to meet sponsor’s deadline
- Upload required and final documentation to sponsor proposal portal (e.g., Research.gov, Cayuse), unless requested otherwise by the PI
DEAN’S OFFICE
- Work directly with PIs to manage, edit, and compile components of their proposal
- Review and approve final budget and budget justification prior to KR routing
- Provide administrative support to PIs and departments for center-scale or complex proposal efforts
- Manage cost sharing and other institutional support commitments and letters
