"A hint of dark radiation from the CMB?"

 

Recent precision cosmological data appear to point to an excess of radiation energy density in the universe.  I review the observational evidence in some detail, and discuss its interpretation in  terms of light sterile neutrinos and the compatibility of such an interpretation with the results of terrestrial neutrino experiments.   Some more speculative scenarios will also be put forward.
