Abstract:
We have demonstrated  the recent methods of ion acceleration by laser (such as Radiation Pressure Acceleration(RPA) and Coherent Acceleration of Ions by Laser (CAIL)) are integrated with a magnet lattice to reliably deliver protons with superior beam qualities. The achievements include: 1% energy spread of different energies and good uniformity as well as the precise adjustment of the laser accelerated proton beam in terms of energy, charge and diameter with repeatability and availability. One immediate application may be the Spread-Out Bragg Peak (SOBP) beam therapy of cancer. It elevates “laser acceleration” to “laser accelerators” since the invention of laser acceleration in 1979 by Tajima and Dawson.
