ABSTRACT
Giorgio Einaudi professional career spans several diverse arenas: academic experience, scientific research, science policy and management.
1. He will show his last results on solar corona heating mechanism as an application of turbulence in externally driven plasma systems, as an example of his research activity.
2. He will describe his job as Science and Technology Counselor at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, being an important interlocutor with American Institutions as OSTP, DoS, DoE, EPA, NASA, NOAA, NSF, NIST.
3. He will show how a physicist can contribute to promote international projects and build a technology platform which address global technological challenges and sustainable economic growth coupled with reduced emissions, being an Advisor of the Italian Ministry for Environment.
4. He will discuss the role scientists can play to fill the gap that exists nowadays between science-based understanding and policy decisions made by Governments, private sector enterprises and the civil society. His thoughts are based on his experience as Acting Deputy Director of the Institute on Science for Global Policy (ISGP).
