Event Details:
Residents of North America will be treated to a solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017. From Irvine, we will see a partial eclipse, in which the Moon will cover 60% of the face of the Sun at maximum. The partial eclipse begins at 9:06 am, reaches maximum at 10:22 am, and ends at 11:45 am. During that time, the Department of Physics and Astronomy will be hosting an eclipse viewing party on the Physical Sciences Plaza, adjacent to Frederick Reines Hall and Rowland Hall, with solar viewing equipment and eclipse glasses to share. In order for us to better anticipate the number of visitors for the event, please fill out the RSVP Form on the Physical Sciences web site, linked above. Everyone planning to watch the eclipse should read the American Astronomical Society's Eye Safety information page in advance (see above link). General information about the eclipse is provided in the Viewing Guide link.
